Sorry for not posting last week, I have been so rushed off my feet with club business that something had to give.
Anyway if every there was a bad week for the club then this has been it.
How things have changed in just a couple off weeks, the 1st’s and ladies were still looking good for promotion but have both lost some important games, losing ground to their rivals. They’ll both be hoping that their oppositions slip up as it would appear that they’ll be relying on them now.
The 2nd’s had an ‘odd’ week, a trip to Taunton to not play a game. A misunderstanding about the start time left them rather red faced on arrival and the fallout from the league has just started….
A least one team won the weekend – go the 3rd’s! – even if it was at the expense of the 4th’s, not quite the resounding victory as earlier in the season but well done to both teams for trying to play good hockey, rather that trying to kick the crap out of each other. If only the 4th’s could get a regular goal scorer.
2 other teams are through to the quarter finals of the Cornwall Cup in addition to the 2nd’s. The 1st’s beat a half decent Penzance 2nd’s on Sunday 10 – 0, while the ladies 2nd’s march on to a daunting match against Newquay.
Those Cup/Plate semi’s that are confirmed are:
CUP.Truro 1st V Bude or Caradon (my money’s on Bude)
CUP.Truro 2nd’s V Bodmin (could go either way)
PLATE. CSM V CSM A or Truro C
CUP. Newquay V Truro Ladies 2nd’s
PLATE. Falmouth 3rd’s or Morgarrows (prob Morgarrows) V Truro or St.Austell (should be us)
I’ll confirm further when some more results are in, all these fixtures to be played by 28th Feb.
See you there.

Welcome back, as you can see we’ve finally got the club site working again! It’s only taken since August but better late than never.
If you’ve not seen them for a while the latest tables and results for all our teams are listed below. If you didn’t already know both the 1st and ladies are having an excellent season with real promotion hopes. The 2nd’s and 3rd’s aren’t doing too badly either, both were safe from relegation before Christmas, perhaps the 2nd’s can use the rest of the season to give some of the younger lads in the 3rd’s a bit of experience at that level ready for next year? Who knows…….
There is some bad news for the 4th’s though: they may not get relegated no matter what!
As is usual this time of year, there are any number of possibilities and conjecture about relegation/promotion but it is looking likely that relegations higher up are all going to end up feeding into 1 specific league in Avon. Weirdly, this would mean that all South based league would only have promotions but we’re still a long way from having this all settled yet so Tim can still work on a return to the comfort and safety of South Western.
The latest round of the Cornwall Cup/Plate is almost upon us so we’ll all be playing a lot more hockey in the next few weeks and Dave Powell has promised to sort us out a social shortly to blow away those post Christmas blues. So things aren’t looking too bad for the club for a change (I know thats just jinxed it).
Match reports for the ladies and 1sts are up so take a gander, and if you play for one of the other sides and want to see your name on here SEND ME A MATCH REPORT!!!*
* must be emailed to me by 6pm on Monday nights at latest to meet West Briton deadline.
More info next week.

Happy new year gents and ladies.
Training is due to restart on Tuesday 5th Jan and Thursday 7th Jan,
usual times.
However, please check the website below during the day, as due to the
current weather forecast the pitch may be closed with very little
notice.
I do not generally have email access during the day so i may be
unaware of any closure so please don’t contact me about it unless you
know it is off so we can spread the word.

Sorry for not having updated this site for a while – I moved house and it took a while to get back online.
So here is it the end of season round up!
Men’s 1st’s
4th – 40pts
After topping Prem 2 for most of the pre Xmas part of the season, injuries and missing personnel cost the teams aspirations dear in the new year. It was a position that they were never really able to recover from and although finishing in 4th was a very good result, they will be a little disappointed that their earlier form couldn’t be sustained into a promotion position. The Cornwall Men’s Cup was retained for the 5 year in a row.
Men’s 2nd’s
5th – 39pts
Sometimes brilliant, sometimes dire, the overall season was their best yet, with a points total that in other seasons would of meant they were in contention for promotion. With a new contingent of players looking to come up from lower teams as well as new members to the club, things are looking good for the 2nd’s to improve further next season.
Men’s 3rd’s
7th – 27pts
Toughest season for a few years, with a change of Capt mid way through and a big change in players. The success of the 4th’s didn’t help either, and more emphasis should be placed on supporting and getting this side up the leagues next year.
Men’s 4th’s
2nd – 45pts
The only side this year to achieve promotion, they had lead South Western almost all year but were unable to pull away from the chasing pack far enough to lift themselves as automatic champions. They had a great spirit imbued by Capt Tim who also did well to accommodate players who aged from 15 to their 60’s. Just pipped to the top position by Dart in one of the seasons best games they’ll be looking to consolidate in their new league.
Ladies 1st’s
3rd – 43pts
Another side that were regularly in the top 3 all year, they had their best season with a truly astonishing improvement in their standards of play. Whilst falling just short in the end, they have proved a lot to themselves this season and in addition won their first ever bit of silverware collecting the Cornwall Ladies Plate in a epic battle against Penzance and expectations for next season will now be high.
Men’s 5th’s
With the announcement of the formation of Duchy HC, plans to apply for league status for the 5th’s have been put on hold but the 5th’s will still be run as a friendly side with the hope that they can be entered at the end of next season.
Ladies 2nd’s
Another side who really should be looking to enter the league this time next year, need to play more regularly but did quite well in the games they did have. A permanent Capt this year should help their cause.
Club
As a whole the club is looking quite good, having recovered from almost all the financial problems we were left with 2 years ago, but we still have lots of work to do. Training whilst better can still be improved, as can communication between Capts about players coming up and down the sides. Relations with Truro School have been redefined and next season should see the facilities enhanced for our benefit. Although we did receive a red card this year, our relationships with the umpires continue to improve. Socials were a bit of a disaster with only the ladies Skinners night and the End Of Season Do being well supported, the appointment for next year of a dedicated social sec should go some way in relieving this situation.
3 teams were in with a realistic chance of promotion this season, although only the 4th’s got there, we are in a good position to build on this for next season. The addition of some silverware for the ladies was a very welcome boost to them as well as the 1st’s usual recapture of the county Cup for the 5th year in a row. Of the 5 finals in the county competitions we won 3 (Men’s Cup, Ladies Plate, Junior Cup) and were also runners up in one (Junior Cup).
Truro players remain the core for both the men’s senior county side as well as the newly formed men’s U21’s. In addition many of our players have achieved places in the West regional and national representative sides including: Sam and Alex Rust GB Schools & Colleges and many others especially from the Junior ranks.
Truro HC continues to be the largest club in the county and will continue to work to improve standards for our players and hockey in Cornwall.
